Toddler gear--where to find it, what to buy?!?!

My son is about to start daddy and me soccer, and I have been having a hard time really navigating what to get for a 35" two and a half year old! Some stores have XXS small shin guards (what size should they be for his height?), and there are some shoes in toddler sizes, but I can't seem to find everything together, and I'm having a hard time finding socks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
